Pamela Anderson is no stranger to the boob tube. Her stint as the Tool Time Girl on Home Improvement introduced Playboy's Miss February 1990 to TV audiences; later, her role as sexy lifeguard C.J. Parker on Baywatch launched her to superstardom. But Pam: Girl on the Loose, which debuts on E! August 3, may be our first chance to really get to know the woman behind the international sex symbol. We caught up with Pam to chat with her about her new reality show.
Playboy.com: What made you decide to do reality television?
Pamela Anderson: I'm much better unscripted. I like a challenge. And I've been able to put my twist on things. I'm a rabid editor. I'm obsessed and love it. I approach the show as if it's a surf video -- I'm a fan of skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding. I watch Fuel TV with my boys, and I wanted to make something that captured that same kind of free-spirited lifestyle, something that had more dimension than just the usual exhibitionism you see on reality shows.
Playboy.com: Will we see a different side of you than the one the public already knows?
Pamela Anderson: I'm not sure if this will show me in any kind of new light. I doubt it. I am who I am. No apologies. No excuses. And I think I'm doing okay.
Playboy.com: You're used to being in the spotlight, but how did it feel to have the cameras on you all the time?
Pamela Anderson: Actually, the cameras weren't there all the time. My kids are off limits. And everything else they filmed is just what I'd be doing anyway, like traveling. Once I leave my house, I know I'm working.
Playboy.com: Much of your focus these days is on charitable causes, such as PETA. Is that something you wanted to incorporate into the show?
Pamela Anderson: Yes. I love that I can bring issues to light in the midst of my wild and crazy life. Important things like animal rights, human rights and the environment.
Playboy.com: Has the show taught you anything new about yourself?
Pamela Anderson: I'm shocked to see my life on camera. I stand straighter and try and speak slower now. You learn a lot about yourself by watching. It's pretty revealing. And I'm not shy.
